Nightjar watch on Hazeley Heath

On the evening of the 18th July 2025 a group of BVFoE members and associates went for a guided walk with Royal Society for the Protection of Birds RSPB experts to experience the sounds and sights of the nightjar.

If you want to know more about this bird and its ways read up about it here.

Also here is a picture of an informative board on Farnham Heath

And here are a few images and a video that help give a feel of the evening.

These quotes help demonstrate what a lovely experience people had. Thank you all of you who helped this event happen especially the RSPB people who led the walk and shared their knowledge.

“Thank you for organising the opportunity to see nightjars. Heard one loud and clear and saw its silhouette as it flew to a tree. Was a magical experience 💚. The RSPB guys were very gracious with their time and even came out in the week to scout for the best spot to give us more chance of seeing them x”

“Very interesting walk and lots of sounds to be remembered.”

“It was a nice evening, interesting as I’d never done it before. We were looking for night jars. I didn’t see any but could hear them all around.”
